This assignment will end our semester-long conversation about the history of the Chinese in Canada and Canadians in China. You are asked to put together a collection of photographs that speaks to your interpretation of the course material.
The topic should focus on the Chinese students in Canada. Please talk about in both good and bad examples, you selection should from different time period such as the historical time and latest time.Please also focus more how these Chinese students become more independent to run their own bussiness while they study or how they integrate the western culture. Also, how gay students become different when they in China and Canada.
What is a photo essay?
A photo essay, in its simplest form, is a series of pictures that evokes an emotion, presents an idea or helps tell a story. Even though you may not have been aware, you have been creating and been exposed to photo essays. (see https://www.weareteachers.com/teaching-the-photoessay/

This picture is famous because of the emotion it evokes and because it captures so poignantly the poverty and struggle faced by so many during the Great Depression
Requirements
For this assignment, you are asked to pick a topic related to the Chinese experience in Canada or the experience of Canadians in China. You are then asked to collect a minimum of 10 photographs related to your topic. You can take your own photos or you can source your photos from elsewhere as long as you properly cite your sources.
Provide 2-3-sentences captions for each of your photos. The captions should explain the image and connect it to your essays theme.
In addition to the virtual essay that you will create, you must include a write up that includes an introductory paragraph that tells your subject and the theme of your essay. The write up is separate with the photoes.
You must also provide background about the topic that you have chosen (with 2 academic book sources). You should provide details about why this topic is relevant to you or why you selected the photos that you did. Your introduction should prepare your audience for the images that are to follow in your virtual presentation.
This write up should be a minimum of 2.5 pages and you must have a clear thesis in your first paragraph, please underlie your thesis. You should include a bibliography of the sources that you use.
The focus of this assignment is on the visual components of your project. With that being said, your write up is still important in giving an overview of your project and the topic that you have selected.
