KLEINWORT MINKINS Mr. Peter Chum entered the personal financial planning industry in 1993 after moving to Hong Kong from Canada in 1992. He established himself in mortgage brokerage industry and in 1995 bought Hereford International Financial Planning Limited (HI), a small personal financial planning fim in Hong Kong. HI then specialized in overseas mortgage financing. In 1996, he started Global Alliance International Financial Planning Limited (GA), aiming at starting fresh and free from liabilities incurred by HI. All client accounts were transferred to the new company In 2000, due to a new licensing regime introduced by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (HKSFC), he established Kleinwort Minkins Asset Management Limited (KM). The new company inherited all client accounts from Global Alliance. Peter Chum acted as the company's Managing Director until March 2006, after he sold the company to Xinhua Finance (XF), a Tokyo stock exchange mother board listed company, in 2003. Peter Chum changed the name of the company to Global Alliance International Financial Planning Limited in 1996 Mr. Chum integrated mortgage brokerage services in the business and made it its core service.
