A hypothetical study investigated the extent to which
heterosexual men and women are willing to forgive an opposite-sex
partner for transgressions in a relationship. Men and women
participants completed a questionnaire where they read five
different situations where an opposite-sex partner transgressed in
a relationship. After each situation, participants rated their
willingness to forgive on a scale from 1 (not forgive at
all) to 9 (definitely forgive). Hence, total ratings
could range from 5 (all 1s recorded) to 45 (all 9s recorded). Given
the following data, test whether forgiveness varies by sex and/or
relationship status at a .05 level of significance.
