decrease in the number of patients seen on a weekly basis.
Management wants to investigate the potential causes of decreased
patient volume. You have been hired as a consultant, brought in to
assist the management team solve the problem at hand.
1) To address the problem under consideration you decided that
you and Management needed to include the following as part of the
problem-solving strategy:
â— Use a Pareto chart to identify the most frequently occurring
complaints.
â— Use run charts to plot measures over time.
â— Use tabular summaries to produce basic descriptive
statistics.
â— Use histograms and explore relationships between relevant
variables.
â— Use correlations and scatterplots to explore and quantify the
relationships between variables.

ascertain the following:
a. Is the distribution for symmetric?
b. Based on the shape of the
distribution for which measure of centrality, mean or median, is

c. From the Pareto chart determine

e. Using the appropriate graph,
identify the weeks in which was a particularly high or low. Are the
other variables also high or low? Does this tell you anything about

f. Can we learn something from these

3.) Discuss the difference between correlation and causation
(check your textbook and Google this topic). Specifically, why does
correlation not imply causation? Provide at least one example where
there is a strong correlation but clearly no evidence of
causation.
4. SUMMARIZE your proposed solution to the
problem you and the Management team initially set out to solve
using no more than a page to do it.
